Zoe is almost there, but the fact that our bathroom is upstairs makes it a very trying and tedious task. Add a 21-pound bundle of joy named Zach and matters become more complicated. So when Zoe states, "Mommy, I have to use the potty," it becomes a frantic dash up the stairs. Perhaps "frantic" is not the right word. "Stroll" is better. Zoe likes to take her time on the stairs, singing songs, looking out the window on the landing, anything to delay the potty visit and increase my blood pressure a few points. Meanwhile, Zach likes to try to pull the pictures off the wall while we're walking up. By the time we actually get to the potty, I have lost a few fistfulls of hair and my glasses are either hanging off one ear or completely off (thanks Zach). Zoe has an abundant collection of books and magazines next to the potty to ensure she has enough reading material to sit there for a good 20 minutes. I am trying (unsuccessfully) to teach her the art of brevity. After she goes, she gets an M&M, so there's another 5 minutes of deciding which color she wants. Then, she washes her hands while singing the song of her choice. Another 2 minutes. The grand finale entails me chasing her naked butt around the house, trying to get her to put her underpants back on.
All in all, each potty adventure takes upwards of a half hour. Hence the reason I have no time to do anything but ponder over the riveting pages in "My Big Girl Potty."
We did go on a nice field trip yesterday to the Buffalo Botanical Gardens with the daycare center. Zoe was, by far, the most interested child. Must be those Navratil genes! Here she is with her best friend, Harry:

Zachary just kind of hung out in the stroller the whole time. All he wants to do is roll and try to crawl these days, so when he is confined in any way he becomes a bit grumpy. I can't wait until he starts crawling because then he will be able to entertain himself and Zoe even more than he already does! And he'll be able to escape Zoe when she wants to wrestle/ lay on top of him/ push him over/ poke him in the ear/ kiss him/ screech his name at the top of her lungs/ put Play Dough on his head/ strip him naked/ etc.

Doesn't this picture just scream, "Help me! Get me away from her!"
Don't get me wrong, Zoe is a wonderful big sister -- very loving, very attentive, and Zachary is completely enamored with her and is all smiles when she is around. The sweetest thing in the world is when Zoe wakes up in the morning, her first matter of business is to go in Zach's room and whisper "Wake up Zach!" More often than not he is already awake, but it is still so darn cute. They are already the best of friends and I love it.
